Japanese Floral Scissors
Our Japanese floral scissors are made of high quality forged steel, constructed and hand finished by Japanese artisans Toyama Hamono. Toyama Hamono produce a wide range of professional tools, including scissors for flower arrangement (Ikebana). The traditional Japanese floral art of Ikebana dates back to the seventh century.
There are two types of Ikebana floral scissors, “Koryu” and “Wasabite”. The “Koryu” style is similar in style to conventional scissors, with large loop handles to put your fingers through. “Wasabite” style scissors are more uniquely shaped, and don’t have any finger holes. To use Wasabite scissors, put your index finger through the two curved handles, rest the top handle in the middle of the index finger, and hold it with your thumb, while the bottom handle rests on the rest of your three fingers. Cut by moving the bottom handle. The “Wasabite” style is not familiar to many but this is the most popular professional floral tool made by Toyama Hamono.
Japanese traditional flower scissors do not have any springs. Their laser sharp blades are set at an acute angle in order to protect the fiber of the stem from being crushed. Flowers and stems cut this way last longer. Toyama Hamono have always developed their tools by reflecting the needs of flower professionals.
We also have non-traditional flower scissors with more conventional features such as a spring and a clip. The long pointy blade garden scissors are strong enough to cut a thick branch or delicate succulent plants and indoor flowers.
The walnut inlay handle scissors are classified as secateurs but have also been developed with floral professionals in mind. These walnut inlay scissors are the best seller at Shokunin Store. An exquisite work of art and admired by the design conscious, only a few of these can be produced even by the master craftsmen at Toyama Hamono.
