About our Japanese Garden Shears
Garden shears are used for leaf pruning, hedging and topiary. They have long broad blades and need to be razor sharp to prevent bruising and tearing of leaves.
We have selected two Japanese garden shears for the Shokunin stable. They are the “Kenshin Long Blade Garden Shears” and the “Kihachi Shears”.
Kenshin Long Blade Shears can be sharpened to the point where they will even cut paper cleanly. They feature 300mm long, broad forged steel blades attached to waxed Japanese oak handles using the same techniques applied to traditional Japanese temple construction.
The blades are made for leaf and soft stem cutting and detailing only. Cutting hard wood or stems will damage the blade. These special sheers come with a raw leather sheath that colours beautifully with age.
Our “Kihachi Shears” are robust and versatile. Their 250mm blades feature a unique indentation design. The hollow ground blades serve to collect sap, gum and debris. This allows the blade to stay clean resulting in a more efficient cut and the blade staying sharper longer. These shears have a hardened steel blade allowing them to cut into tougher stems than the Kenshin shears.
Both our shears come from world renowned cities for steel products in Japan that have been testing and polishing their skills and knowledge for centuries.
