Description
This origami tin plate is nothing like you have seen before. This innovative new tin plate is much talked about but has barely left its country of birth – Japan. Carefully hand-hammered over 500 times by master craftsmen and literally translated as tin paper, “Suzugami” (すずがみ) is mysteriously flexible and malleable like origami paper but it won’t break when bent. You can mold it to any shape you like. It can be used for food or as a container for your jewery. The larger plates look fantastic as flower vases. It helps to handle it gently so its original patterns and lustrous surface will last longer, but the good news is it’s dishwasher safe. It can be flattened using a roller pin.
As these tin plates can be completely flat, it is perfect to take with you outside. These will not only make sustainable companion for your picnic or camping, they will certainly add elegance to your outdoor setting.
The creators of this magical product are a manufacturer established in 1909, specialised in making “orin” bowl or bowl gongs for Buddhist temples.
There are only ten “orin” bowl artists in all of Japan, three of whom work at this studio. They create round shaped “orin” gongs by hammering down metal. These bowl gongs produce sounds that are beautiful and peaceful. Applying this special hammering technique, this origami tin plate “Suzugami” was born.
This product is dishwasher safe. Use of chopsticks or wooden cutlery recommended.
