About the Collaboration

This kit is produced by furniture maker Iwayado, who crafts the lacquered wooden base of the pin cushion. It is a collaboration between Iwayado and the Otsuchi Sashiko Restoration NPO.

The NPO was established by women in Iwate Prefecture after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. Since then, they have worked to revitalise the local community while empowering women through Sashiko.

This project brings together two traditional crafts of Iwate—Sashiko stitching and lacquered woodwork. Each group contributes its own expertise, creating a product that is both practical and meaningful.

Through this collaboration, they aim to support the rebuilding of the region. At the same time, they share the beauty of their culture and the resilience of their community with the world.
