Takashi Yoshioka, whose company has been making some of the world’s finest blades since 1946, leads a team of master blacksmiths. This much-anticipated new product has finally arrived in Australia and we are very proud to announce that we are one of the first companies in the world to offer these secateurs outside of Japan.

Like other fans of Yoshioka tools, we have closely followed the development of these shears from the earliest stages, ever since Yoshioka announced the exciting news that a new product was in the pipeline. We have witnessed Takashi Yoshioka’s quest for perfection in every aspect, from product design and craftsmanship to business excellence. After a great many prototypes and much trial and error, Yoshioka finally handed us our first pair to try. The Black Masamune Pruning Shears did not disappoint. Made of premium blue paper (aogami) grade Hitachi Yasugi Steel (日立安来鋼青紙), these ultra-sharp and reliable shears are designed for use by horticultural professionals who demand long-lasting performance and the very best quality.

The Black Masamune Pruning Shears attracted many fans long before they were ready for the market, with eager fans constantly asking if they were ready for purchase. One reason is the stylish appearance of these shears. The handle is covered with a sophisticated black non-slip criss-cross pattern grip. This and the slick matte black body and blades create a look that’s irresistible to any tool enthusiast.
But looks are just the beginning, and we knew these shears would be brilliant to use. After all, these were designed and crafted by Takashi Yoshioka – the toughest critic of his own products. What we love about these shears is both the design and the functionality. A shock-absorbing rubber cushion prevents unpleasant jarring you can get when snipping. The shears also don’t pinch the skin of your palm when you snip holding the shears closer to the blades as some secateurs do. Yoshioka places as much importance on the sharpness of the blades as he does on creating a perfect weight balance between the head and the handle, ensuring users as much comfort as possible. Yoshioka Hamono is located in the city of Ono, in the heart of a region renowned for its steel forges and expertise in metal work. With a history dating back 1,200 years, Ono has long been known for its blacksmithing, rivalling the northern Japanese city of Sanjo (Tsubame) in Niigata. Since 1946, Yoshioka Hamono have been producing a wide range of garden shears and tailors’ scissors. Takashi Yoshioka’s long blade garden shears have earned many enthusiastic fans around the world. Care Instructions
– Keep in a dry place
– Do not leave them wet
– Do not sharpen the back of the blades. Secret of Japanese scissors and shears is in the back of the blades.
– To maintain the sharpness, if you are not using them for a while, say 6 months, we recommend you apply a drop of Japanese camellia seed oil around the rivet. Open and close a few times and wipe off any excess oil.
